NOR DREAD NOR HOPE T-SHIRT
This T-shirt accompanies the Nor Dread Nor Hope collection, its title borrowed from William Butler Yeats’ poem Death.
In the poem, Yeats distinguishes human mortality from animal death. Unlike the beast, humanity possesses the capacity to anticipate its own ending—to live with dread and hope, fear and expectation. We experience countless symbolic deaths before our biological one: failures, losses, ruptures, and transformations that continually reshape who we are.
The line suggests that death, as a concept saturated with meaning and anxiety, is inseparable from human consciousness itself. In becoming aware of our finitude, we create death anew.
This garment forms part of an ongoing exploration of the body, identity, and the narratives we construct to understand our own impermanence.
